Japan eSIM

This plan's days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in its coverage area, not when you buy or install it.

Unfortunately, the Japan plan only allows you to use mobile data. It does not include a phone number for mobile calls or messages. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp.

Once you purchase an eSIM, you will receive it immediately to your email address. You then scan the QR code to install the eSIM. If you have not installed, activated or used your eSIM, you can ask us to review a refund within 30 calendar days of purchase, when the order is linked to your Roamify account email. You don't need to do anything to keep your WhatsApp number. You'll automatically keep your number, contacts and conversations.

The Roamify eSIM offers maximum speed coverage. But bear in mind that in some areas of limited coverage there may be a lower speed connection.

Yes. To ensure that your eSIM gets the best coverage, you must turn on data roaming on your mobile settings. This will not incur any additional charges, as long as you have already set up the eSIM.

Not always. This plan connects through a roaming partner, so websites and apps may see an IP address registered in another country rather than in Japan. This is normal for travel eSIMs and does not change your data allowance, speed or coverage. If a service requires a local IP address, such as some banking apps or regional streaming catalogues, connect through a local network or use a VPN set to Japan.

Unlimited data for 15 days. Network speeds can vary. When the plan's days run out, your eSIM stops working and you lose its internet connection.

This eSIM includes unlimited data for the contracted time. However, please note that the operator may reserve the right to apply a Fair Usage Policy, as it applies to all other network users. In particular, if the operator estimates the usage of more than 90GB of data in a month, it may temporarily reduce the speed to between 256-1024KB to avoid affecting other users. This limitation is intended to prevent network saturation and will be removed within 24 hours. If you think the local operator has limited your speed, please get in touch with us by chat, and we will check if there is any incidence and how to restore your rate to the maximum speed allowed by the network.

Plans for Japan can't be topped up. When your data or validity runs out, buy a new Japan plan on the Roamify website or app. It comes as a new eSIM, which you can install alongside the old one.

Yes, you can share data with other devices. You can do this by activating the hotspot on your device.

Once you make your purchase, we will send you an email with precise instructions to install your eSIM in two ways: by scanning the QR code or by copying and pasting the manual installation codes. To install with the first option, it is essential that the QR code is printed or on another device. Otherwise, you can follow the manual installation instructions for your Roamify eSIM. If your device is iOS, go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the QR code or paste the manual installation codes sent to your email. Then follow the on-screen instructions and choose your new eSIM as the line for mobile data. Your Japan plan is data-only, so keep your physical SIM as the line for calls and texts. If your device is Android, follow the instructions we will email you to install your Roamify eSIM. When you are in Japan, select your Roamify eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. At Roamify, we want to make setting up your eSIM as easy as possible. For this reason, all our eSIM products come with complete instructions for easy setup. You can install this plan a day or two before you travel, over Wi-Fi. Its days start only when it first connects to a network in its coverage area. When you are in Japan, select the Roamify eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. An installed eSIM is generally no longer refundable. See our refund policy.

To check your remaining data, log in to our web app with the access details we emailed you when you made your purchase. You can also check your data use in your device's mobile data settings.

Your eSIM can only be activated on one device. If you delete the eSIM from your device, you will not be able to reuse it. You cannot scan the QR code on two devices.

You don't need to delete the eSIM. But if you want to, please see how to delete eSIM on iOS and Android.

Yes. Keep your physical SIM for calls and texts, and choose the Roamify eSIM as the line for mobile data in your device settings. If data roaming stays on for your physical SIM, your home network provider may charge roaming fees, so turn it off for that line.

Most unused eSIM purchases are eligible for a refund review when you send your request within 30 calendar days of purchase. To qualify, the eSIM must not be activated, installed, or consumed, and the order must be linked to your Roamify account email. Once an eSIM has been activated or installed, or has recorded data usage, it generally cannot be refunded. Please see our eSIM Refund Policy for the full terms.
