How does the Roamify eSIM work?

    1

    Pick the eSIM plan

From unlimited data to fixed data and even plans with calls and hotspots, we have the right plan for you.

    2

    Pay for your order

Chose the plan that suits you best and buy your eSIM card from our website or app. You will receive an email with your QR code.

    3

    Scan the QR code

It's easy. Just scan the QR code we send you and turn on data roaming from your settings. Now you can enjoy it on your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Vietnam eSIM

Everything you need to know about the Vietnam eSIM.

    01

When does my data plan start?

    +

Your plan starts the moment you activate your eSIM by scanning the QR code on your smartphone.

    02

Can I make phone calls and send messages with the eSIM?

    +

Unfortunately, the Vietnam plan only allows you to use mobile data. It does not include a phone number for mobile calls or messages. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp.

    03

When will I receive my eSIM?

    +

Once you purchase an eSIM, you will receive it immediately to your email address. You then just need to scan the QR code to activate the SIM. Note that no refunds can be made once you purchase your eSIM. See our refund policy for more information.

    04

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

    +

You don't need to do anything to keep your WhatsApp number. You'll automatically keep your number, contacts and conversations.

    05

What is the network speed of the eSIM?

    +

The Roamify eSIM offers maximum speed coverage. But bear in mind that in some areas of limited coverage there may be a lower speed connection.

    06

Do I have to activate data roaming on my device?

    +

Yes. To ensure that your eSIM gets the best coverage, you must turn on data roaming on your mobile settings. This will not incur any additional charges, as long as you have already set up the eSIM.

    07

Will my eSIM have a local IP address in Vietnam?

    +

Not always. This plan connects through a roaming partner, so websites and apps may see an IP address registered in another country rather than in Vietnam. This is normal for travel eSIMs and does not change your data allowance, speed or coverage. If a service requires a local IP address, such as some banking apps or regional streaming catalogues, connect through a local network or use a VPN set to Vietnam.

    08

What do I do if I delete or lose my eSIM's QR code?

    +

If you cannot find the code, please contact our 24/7 customer support team at support@getroamify.com or our online chat function. We will resend the code to your email.

    09

What happens if I use up my data or ny days of validity?

    +

If you use all your data or run out of days, your eSIM card will no longer work and you will lose internet connection.

    10

What eSIM data plan should I choose for Vietnam?

    +

You can choose variable plans as shown above. You can contact us at any time if you're not sure which plan is best for you.

    11

Will the connection speed be reduced?

    +

This eSIM includes unlimited data for the contracted time. However, please note that the operator may reserve the right to apply a Fair Usage Policy, as it applies to all other network users. In particular, if the operator estimates the usage of more than 90GB of data in a month, it may temporarily reduce the speed to between 256-1024KB to avoid affecting other users. This limitation is intended to prevent network saturation and will be removed within 24 hours. If you think the local operator has limited your speed, please get in touch with us by chat, and we will check if there is any incidence and how to restore your rate to the maximum speed allowed by the network.

    12

Can I renew or extend the data on my eSIM?

    +

Yes, you can do so by logging into your customer panel on the Roamify website. You will find the data plans you can purchase there. Once you've made your purchase, it will be activated immediately on the eSIM you have linked.

    13

Can I share data with other devices?

    +

Yes, you can share data with other devices. You can do this by activating the hotspot on your device.

    14

How do I set up the eSIM on my device?

    +

Once you make your purchase, we will send you an email with precise instructions to install your eSIM in two ways; by scanning the QR code or by copying and pasting the manual installation codes. To install with the first option, it is essential that the QR code is printed or on another device. Otherwise, you can follow the manual installation instructions for your Roamify eSIM. If your device is iOS, you must enter Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM on your device and scan the QR code or paste the manual installation codes sent to your email. You must then follow the on-screen instructions to select your new eSIM for mobile data and calls. If your device is Android, follow the instructions we will email you to install your Roamify eSIM. Remember that your Roamify data plan should only be activated when you arrive at your destination. Once there, make sure to select your Roamify eSIM as your preferred option to make calls, then activate data roaming and also the Roamify calling plan. At Roamify, we want to make setting up your eSIM as easy as possible. For this reason, all our eSIM products come with complete instructions for easy setup. If you have any questions or need help, don't hesitate to contact our customer support team. We will be there for you 24/7.

    15

When should I set up my eSIM?

    +

Set up your eSIM before your departure. Once you reach your destination, just activate the data plan and turn on data roaming. We recommend you print the QR code and take it with you on your vacation just in case. Remember that you need internet access to activate the eSIM. Set up is quick and you will be able to enjoy your data plan right away.

    16

How can I check how much data and minutes do I have left?

    +

To check your remaining data balance, simply log in to our web app using the access details that we sent you via email when you made your purchase. You can also check your data balance in your device's data settings. To check your remaining minutes balance for making or receiving calls, please contact our support team. We're always happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

    17

How many times can I use my eSIM card?

    +

Your eSIM can only be activated on one device. If you delete the eSIM from your device, you will not be able to reuse it. You cannot scan the QR code on two devices.

    18

How can I delete the Roamify eSIM once I've used my data?

    +

You don't need to delete the eSIM. But if you want to, please see how to delete eSIM on iOS and Android.

    19

Can I use my (physical) SIM card and Roamify eSIM at the same time?

    +

Sure! You can keep your physical SIM card with your Roamify eSIM simultaneously on your device. Just make sure you choose your eSIM as your default voice line and preferred option for mobile data in your device settings. Please note that if you leave your physical SIM card activated, you might get extra roaming fees from your network provider.

    20

How do I get a refund?

    +

The eSIM is a digital product. Roamify cannot check if you have used the data plan associated with the eSIM card. Therefore, once your eSIM is delivered, we cannot offer a refund. Please see our eSIM Refund Policy for more information.

    21

Navigating Vietnam's Urban and Coastal Network

Vietnam, or Việt Nam as it's known locally, offers a rich tapestry of experiences from the bustling streets of Hanoi to the dynamic cityscape of Ho Chi Minh City and the coastal charm of Da Nang. Travellers often find themselves cruising through the emerald waters of Ha Long Bay or traversing the vibrant chaos of Hanoi's Old Quarter. For those drawn to scenic routes, the Hai Van Pass is a must, leading towards the historic city of Hue. Staying connected as you journey through these regions can enrich your experience, providing the ease of navigation and sharing memories in real-time.

In Vietnam, mobile connectivity is generally robust in urban centres like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, where infrastructure is well-developed. However, as you move towards the outskirts or venture into the more remote areas, such as the mountains around Sapa or the islands of Phu Quoc, the signal can become patchy. National parks and longer rail journeys, particularly in the northern and central regions, might test your patience for stable service. Being aware of these connectivity gaps is key to planning your travels.

    Before you fly

To make the most of your trip, set up your eSIM before you arrive. Make sure to download essential maps and language translation apps while still in a strong signal area. Once you land, you can expect a smooth initiation in the main cities, but don't hesitate to verify settings in quieter zones to ensure continuous coverage.

    Using an eSIM in Vietnam

Answers to the questions travellers actually ask about staying connected in Vietnam.

    20 questions

How do I activate my travel eSIM after arriving at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi?

    +

To activate your travel eSIM upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, ensure your device is connected to Wi-Fi. Open the settings app, select ‘Mobile Data’ or ‘Cellular’, and follow the prompts to add a new eSIM plan. Activation typically involves scanning a QR code provided by your eSIM provider. Double-check that you have roaming enabled if necessary.

Is tethering my laptop to my phone using an eSIM reliable on a train from Hanoi to Da Nang?

    +

Tethering your laptop to your phone via an eSIM should generally work while traveling on the train from Hanoi to Da Nang. However, bear in mind that coverage may be patchy in rural areas between cities. It's advisable to download any essential documents or work files beforehand.

Why might my eSIM not connect after landing at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City?

    +

Your eSIM may not connect at Tan Son Nhat International Airport if it's not activated properly. This airport is one of the busiest in Vietnam, which might complicate connections. Start by ensuring that airplane mode is off and mobile data is enabled. Verify your eSIM configuration and restart your device. Contact your eSIM provider for assistance if issues persist.

What steps should I take if I run out of data while exploring the karst islands of Ha Long Bay?

    +

If you run out of data while in Ha Long Bay, look for local Wi-Fi hotspots at cafes or lodges. Alternatively, consider purchasing a top-up for your eSIM through your provider’s app or website. Planning ahead with offline maps and guides can also mitigate connectivity issues.

Can I switch between my physical SIM and eSIM during my trip along the Hai Van Pass?

    +

Yes, you can switch between your physical SIM and eSIM while traveling the scenic Hai Van Pass. It's a remote area, so timely switching helps maintain connectivity. Use your phone's settings to navigate to 'Mobile Data' and toggle between SIMs. Make sure each SIM's profile is active and configured correctly to ensure smooth transitions.

    +See all 20 questions

Does using an eSIM in Vietnam affect battery life compared to traveling with a physical SIM?

    +

Using an eSIM in Vietnam generally has a negligible impact on battery life compared to a physical SIM. The tropical climate and varying network strengths in areas like Hoi An may affect power usage more. Manage your device by reducing screen brightness and disabling background apps to preserve battery during your travels.

Is there reliable eSIM coverage on Cat Ba Island for video calls?

    +

Reliable eSIM coverage is generally available on Cat Ba Island, but connectivity can be patchy in remote areas. Tourist spots are better covered, making video calls feasible. Before settling down for a call, check local signal strengths and consider moving to higher ground or populated areas if necessary. Consult your eSIM provider for the best network options.

How does the eSIM data speed in Vietnam compare to neighboring countries like Laos and Cambodia?

    +

Vietnam's eSIM data speeds are competitive, especially in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, compared to Laos and Cambodia. The infrastructure in Vietnam is more advanced in urban regions, offering higher speeds. When in rural areas, expect slower speeds. Check with your eSIM provider for detailed coverage maps before traveling between countries.

Will my Vietnamese eSIM work when crossing into Cambodia at the Moc Bai border?

    +

A Vietnamese eSIM may not work in Cambodia at the Moc Bai border unless it includes international roaming. This crossing is a common travel route, but local network partnerships can vary. Check your eSIM plan details for cross-border coverage. If necessary, purchase a local Cambodian eSIM upon arrival to ensure continued connectivity.

Can I use WhatsApp with an eSIM while cruising the Mekong Delta?

    +

Yes, you can use WhatsApp with an eSIM while cruising the Mekong Delta, though network stability can vary. The region's waterways are interspersed with small villages where coverage might dip. To ensure communication, send messages when stopped in populated areas or when your signal is strong. Confirm your eSIM provider offers robust coverage along your route.

What should I do if my eSIM loses signal while hiking in Sapa?

    +

If your eSIM loses signal while hiking in Sapa, move to a higher elevation or more open area, as this can improve connectivity. Download offline maps before your hike and consider offline messaging apps for emergencies. Check with your provider for network coverage in Sapa.

Is an eSIM a good option for someone traveling around Vietnam by motorbike?

    +

An eSIM is a convenient option for motorbike travelers exploring Vietnam's diverse landscapes. Its flexibility suits quick transitions between urban areas like Da Nang and rural paths. Before setting off, confirm your plan's coverage, especially in remote regions. This ensures you can navigate safely and stay connected throughout your journey.

Will my eSIM work in Vietnam if my phone is locked to a carrier in another country?

    +

Your eSIM won't work in Vietnam if your phone is locked to a foreign carrier. This restriction can hinder connectivity when traveling abroad. Before your trip, contact your service provider to unlock your device, allowing you to utilize local eSIM plans. This ensures seamless communication while you're in Vietnam.

What network quality can I expect with an eSIM while visiting tourist hotspots in Ho Chi Minh City?

    +

In Ho Chi Minh City, eSIM users can usually expect strong network quality in popular tourist areas like the Notre Dame Cathedral and Reunification Palace. The city's infrastructure supports robust coverage, facilitating reliable data use. Verify your eSIM provider's local partnerships to optimize performance and enjoy uninterrupted connectivity.

How do I resolve eSIM activation issues in a Da Nang hotel with weak Wi-Fi?

    +

If you're facing eSIM activation issues due to weak Wi-Fi in a Da Nang hotel, try connecting to a more stable Wi-Fi network at a nearby cafe or use a physical SIM temporarily for hotspot connectivity. Follow the activation steps again in a better-connected area.

Are there any specific settings I should adjust for optimal eSIM performance in Vietnam?

    +

For optimal eSIM performance in Vietnam, enable data roaming if your plan supports it and manually select a network if automatic selection is unreliable. Hanoi's diverse neighborhoods can vary in signal strength, so adjust your data settings as needed. Disable non-essential background apps to conserve data and enhance connection stability.

What should I know about eSIM data usage while visiting the Old Quarter in Hanoi?

    +

In Hanoi's Old Quarter, eSIM data usage can be high due to navigation and social media activity. This bustling area is rich in cultural landmarks and narrow streets. Monitor your data consumption closely, as it's easy to exceed limits here. Utilize Wi-Fi in cafes and download offline maps to manage your data effectively.

How can I ensure seamless connectivity if I plan to visit both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with my eSIM?

    +

To ensure seamless connectivity in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, verify with your eSIM provider that both cities have sufficient coverage. These major urban centers typically provide reliable service. Update your eSIM plan to include ample data and enable automatic network selection to transition effortlessly as you travel between the cities.

What should I consider when using an eSIM for a long-distance bus trip from Hue to Ho Chi Minh City?

    +

On a bus trip from Hue to Ho Chi Minh City, expect intermittent coverage in rural regions. The route traverses varied landscapes, including mountainous areas where signals may weaken. Plan by downloading maps and entertainment before departure. Keep your device charged, and check with your eSIM provider for specific coverage along the highway.

Is it possible to switch eSIMs if I find a better option while traveling in Vietnam?

    +

Yes, switching eSIMs is straightforward if a better option becomes available while in Vietnam. Major cities like Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City host several eSIM providers. Obtain a QR code from your new provider and follow installation instructions in your device settings. Confirm that your phone supports multiple eSIM profiles to enjoy the best connectivity options.
